Alphabet Plans Investment of $15bn to Build AI Data Hub in the Indian Subcontinent

Computing Infrastructure
The Nation is a key destination for computing facilities due to its low data costs and swiftly increasing internet user base.

The parent firm of Google the Alphabet conglomerate is set to invest $15bn to build an AI data hub in the state of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.

This center, which will be set up in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is set to become a component of Google's international system of AI centers located in 12 countries.

"It stands as the greatest AI hub that we are committing funds to anywhere in the world, apart from the United States," the CEO of Google Cloud announced at an gathering in capital Delhi this Tuesday, adding that the funding will be spread across the coming five years.

The revelation occurs when American President Donald Trump has been urging US firms to focus on domestic investment.

The Expanding Position of India in AI Computing

The country has become a key destination for AI data centres. India's affordable data pricing and rapidly growing online population have made it a focal point for AI and cloud growth for technology leaders.

"The infrastructure will deliver our industry-leading technology to businesses and consumers in the country, enhancing artificial intelligence advancement and driving growth across the country," commented Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.

Specifics of the Project

A definitive arrangement to conclude the initiative will be signed this Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government said.

"It constitutes a major step forward for our state's digital future, progress, and global standing," stated the technology official Minister Nara Lokesh.

The venture will integrate AI and cloud systems with green energy infrastructure and an enhanced optical fiber network.

Data Infrastructure Plans

This initiative is part of the state government's blueprint to establish six gigawatts of computing facility capacity by 2029.

Data centers are tangible infrastructures that accommodate the computer and network hardware that entities use to gather, analyze, save, and share information.

These include servers, data storage systems and networking hardware like routers and firewalls, along with the necessary power and cooling systems to operate them.

Financial Attractions

In Andhra Pradesh, the local administration has been offering discounted land and energy to attract global investors.

Market Development

India's data centre industry has developed swiftly in the recent half-decade, exceeding the one gigawatt capacity threshold in 2024 and nearly tripling its 2019 level.
