George Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Behind 3-1, Springer delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now hit 23 playoff homers, making him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation except for Springer with his October magic," remarked Schneider.
Seattle, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it hurts" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts this season.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays claimed the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
