Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side just seven months after leading derogatory chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract joining the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds finished amicably in August.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading abusive chants about Chris Wilder amid the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the former England player will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue his beloved club out of the drop zone.

Previous History Involving the Striker & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" when the roles were reversed during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation & Looking Ahead

All seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack while Bamford looking to resurrect his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely in April. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called Wilder the following day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem at all with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Challenges

Bamford made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury in recent years.
