The star has revealed that she believes it's no longer fitting to comment publicly against the Trump presidency, fearing it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and further divisions within the nation.
During a discussion, the Oscar winner commented, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence in any way on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just expressing personal views on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about voting for both conservative and liberal contenders in past elections. Brought up by conservative Republicans in Kentucky, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and revealing she realized during Obama’s administration that supporting the GOP was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.
Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election would be “the end of the world” and backed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. More recently, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s an excellent choice and I know that she will do whatever she can to safeguard women’s health rights.”
Jennifer Lawrence was joined by most of Hollywood in her opposition to Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was highlighted by his election win.
“Another four years feels different,” said the actress of Trump’s presidency. “As he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
The actor is currently promoting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a new mother who struggles with her mental health in rural Montana. At a press conference for the project in Venice, the star commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is nothing short of a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
The actress elaborated by expressing that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the conversations of American politics right now and how that is going to be normalised to the kids right now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
The actor attempted to refocus anger about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on the people in charge,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the recent commitment supported by numerous entertainment industry figures to boycott certain cultural organizations.
The actor, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in the new film. While Ramsay has rejected the plot being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she connected with aspects of her role’s experience after the birth of her second son, shortly after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she said, “just picturing every potential danger, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a medication called Zurzuvae and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Lawrence also discussed of the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the movie while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.
“It’s refreshing,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I do have moments where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
