The former president’s corporate entity increased its hiring of overseas employees on short-term work permits this year, even as his government was placing obstacles for other businesses attempting to do the same, a report released recently stated.
Based on information from the US Department of Labor, the Trump Organization aimed to bring in at least 184 foreign workers in 2025 for temporary positions at the former president’s Florida property, two golf clubs and his winery in Virginia.
The number of requests for temporary work visas covering staff including waitstaff, clerks, cleaning staff, kitchen staff and farm workers was the highest ever submitted by the organization, and increased from over 120 in 2021, when Trump’s first term ended.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that the former president had attempted to hire over a hundred foreign employees for temporary positions at his Florida resort, according to available data.
The disclosure coincides with a tightening on legal immigration by his administration that has included the introduction of a $100,000 fee on skilled worker visas; extra scrutiny of the actions of the millions of people who possess American work permits; and restrictive new rules for international scholars and journalists.
Overall, the business aimed to employ over 560 foreign laborers over the period the former president has been in the White House, from his first term and during 2025.
Significantly, the former president was questioned by some in the GOP this week for comments justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a business was unable to find people with “specific talents” to occupy certain positions.
“You can’t just say a nation is entering, going to spend $10bn to construct a facility, and going to recruit individuals off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in years, and they’re going to start producing their defense systems. It isn’t feasible that well,” he stated to a interviewer after she suggested that overseas employees lower the pay of US workers.
The administration refused a inquiry for response, and the business did not provide an answer to an inquiry.
