Van de Ven Brace Halts Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run on the road in the Premier League and delivered Everton their first defeat at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their recently opened stadium at the dockside location, having left their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of last season.

But Spurs captain Van de Ven struck on two occasions from set-pieces in the first half to place their impressive record at jeopardy, and they were failed to turn it around before Pape Matar Sarr - set up by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - headed home a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien believed he had levelled the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, directing a powerful header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a series of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five away games without defeat in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, instructing the match official to review the score on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates the manager's side up to third in the Premier League, five points off local foes and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

After a uninspiring midweek display in the Champions League against the French side, where they managed a mere two shots on target, Frank chose Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was failed to make much of an impact before being replaced for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it emerged he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an attacking force to be feared.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to score.

And Ven de Ven - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to head home.

The Dutchman was just as impressive in defence, combining well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's third for Spurs.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for the manager, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's two established strikers - had scored just one league goal combined before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he opted to overhead kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, was unable to make an impact after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through the winger and Ndiaye, who tirelessly whipped dangerous balls into the Spurs penalty area.

Everton: The team head to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on Monday, 3 November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club go to Newcastle's ground on Wednesday, 29 October for their fourth-round League Cup tie against Newcastle.
